The second Test match of the second day in India against South Africa in Guwahati was dominated by the visitors, although one of the most interesting moments was presented by the fielding ability of ace bowler Mohammed Siraj. The funny case of Siraj and the Spidercam immediately became viral.
Day 3 began well for South Africa as they posted 489 in their opening innings. India, already under pressure in the series, folded for 201 in reply and handed the Proteas a 288-run lead. Marco Jansen powered the visitors’ advantage with a brilliant 6/48, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav delivered the only noteworthy contributions for the hosts.

To avoid enforcing the follow-on at stumps, South Africa chose not to take it. They carried a lead of 314 and closed the day at 26/0. India faced several issues, but Siraj—who finished the first innings with 2/106 and bowled three overs in the second—still drew attention on the field.
Late in the final session, when South Africa began their second innings, the Spidercam hovered near Mohammad Siraj during fielding. The pacer casually removed his hat and placed it over the camera lens, briefly “blinding” the broadcast feed. In response, the Spidercam operator lowered the device toward him, as if urging him to remove the hat. Siraj ignored the cue until he completed the delivery. After bowling the ball, he walked forward, lifted his hat off the lens, and waved at the camera.

Despite the pleasant occasion, Mohammad Siraj was one of India’s best bowlers in the first innings, dismissing Tony de Zorzi and Senuran Muthusamy. In South Africa’s second innings, he allowed only eight runs in three overs.
