There is big news for fans about the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup. A major development has taken place as the Pakistani government has made a U-turn on its earlier boycott stance against India. As a result, the Pakistan men’s team will now play against India on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo.
The past couple of days have witnessed heated debates and arguments between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) on this matter. Monday night, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that his board was to make a final statement on the long awaited clash in the next 24-48 hours.

The government of Pakistan stated as follows:
“The Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif has been formally briefed by the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, regarding the outcomes of high-level deliberations held between the PCB, representatives of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
“Moreover, this decision has been taken with the aim of protecting the spirit of cricket, and to support the continuity of this global sport in all participating nations.”
Md Animul Islam, President of the BCB, paid a notable visit to Pakistan to engage in discussions with the PCB. Islam thanked Naqvi and the board for expressing solidarity and going above and beyond to help Bangladesh. However, Islam disclosed that the BCB asked the PCB to enable Pakistan to play against India on February 15 for the benefit of the entire cricketing environment.
India’s strong record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups

In the meantime, the Men in Blue take pride in having a proven track record on their face-offs with their arch-rivals in the T20 world cup. The matches between the sides have been six-eighth in favor of India, and one of them took a draw, with their only defeat in 2021. India had also defeated Pakistan thrice in the Asia Cup last year.
Nevertheless, the very first matches of the T20 world cup 2026 were anything but easy. The USA and the Netherlands took their opponents to the brink and both sides engaged in close matches and every match was a battle to the very end.
