In the T20 World Cup 2026, Match No. 52, India won the match by five wickets over West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata to make it in the semi-finals. Having gone on to bat after being put in, West Indies made it 195/4 in their 20 overs through solid efforts by the entire batting line.
A good start was made by Shai Hope and Roston Chase who opened with a 68-run partnership on 53 balls. As the runs continued to go, wickets were falling with a certain frequency. Varun Chakravarthy bowled Hope and Jasprit Bumrah changed the momentum with a vital over, which sent Shimron Hetmyer packing at 27.
Chase contributed a consistent 40 and Sherfane Rutherford contributed 14 and then overtook Hardik Pandya. Seventh-inning surge was achieved at the hands of Rovman Powell and Jason Holder who joined together to piece together an unbroken six-run partnership of 76 using only 35 balls on the fifth wicket. West Indies was almost near the 200 mark as Powell hit 34 off 19 and Holder hit 37 off 22. India had a good bowler in Bumrah, with numbers of 2/36, and Axar Patel was economical in an otherwise costly performance by the attack.

In response, India chased down the target in 19.2 overs, largely thanks to a magnificent knock from Sanju Samson. Early setbacks saw Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan depart for 10 each, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed 18. Tilak Varma then injected momentum with a brisk 27, hammering three consecutive boundaries, and Hardik Pandya added a useful 17.

However, Samson stole the spotlight with a breathtaking 97 off just 50 balls, smashing 12 fours and four sixes at a staggering strike rate of 194. Despite disciplined spells from Jason Holder (2/38) and Shamar Joseph (2/42), India absorbed the pressure and sealed the chase in style.

India now will play England in the semi-final on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai and South Africa play New Zealand in the first semi-final on March 4 at Eden Gardens.
