On Monday, August 11, former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler gave a heartfelt homage to his late father, John. A week ago, the famous cricket player’s father passed away.
Buttler shared a photo of himself and his father with the 2019 ODI World Cup trophy along with a heartwarming letter. The batter-wicketkeeper posted the following on his Instagram story:
“Rest in peace Dad, thank you for everything.”

Remarkably enough, Jos Buttler played the ongoing season of The Hundred 2025 only a few days after the loss of his father. He got a golden duck in his debut match on August 9 playing for Manchester Originals who lost the match against Oval Invincibles by 9 wickets.
He has 22 runs in two matches this season, with a strike rate of 100. The Manchester-based team is now wallowing at the bottom of the points table after starting the season with two consecutive defeats.
Jos Buttler hit a match-winning half-century against Pakistan when his father was hospitalized in August 2020

During England Tests series against Pakistan in August 2020 at the Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester, the father of Jos Buttler was admitted to the hospital. One of the crucial knocks under pressure was seen by the stumper during the fourth innings of the match.
The bold batsman enabled the team England to score 75 runs within 101 balls bringing them to 277 runs in their remaining 3 wickets. He and Chris woakes put together a crucial 139 run sixth-wicket stand.
Joe Root praised Buttler’s effort despite his father’s health problems. Here is what he said following the Test (via ESPNcricinfo):
“It says a huge amount about him as a person, to be able to carry that, and to be able to use that or park that going into this innings. Only he will know which way around he did that. But I’m sure it’s very difficult thing not to think about. To be able to deal with that and still play in that manner was exceptional.”

Meanwhile, Buttler will return to action on Monday, August 11, when Manchester Originals face London Spirit. Manchester’s Old Trafford will host the game.
