DC after win vs RR

On Wednesday, April 16, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the 32nd match of the 2025 Indian Premier League saw the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeat the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a slim margin in a super over. The team captained by Axar Patel took back the top spot in the standings with their fifth victory in six games.

On a two-paced track, DC was asked to bat first and scored a reasonable 188 for five in 20 overs. Tristan Stubbs (34*), Axar Patel (34), KL Rahul (38), and Abishek Porel (49) all made significant batting contributions for the home team. With a respectable spell, Jofra Archer (2/32) was RR’s standout bowler.

RR made 188 for four total runs in their second innings to tie the match at the end. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) and Nitish Rana (51) together with their colleagues gave it everything butfailed to push their team past the target mark. During the death overs Mitchell Starc presented consistently accurate yorkers to give Delhi Capitals their victory in the match. The twelve runs RR scored during the super over match were quickly dealt with by DC within four deliveries for their victorious triumph.

“At that time, when you are hit for runs, you hit the panic button. When we took the timeout, I spoke to the team during IPL and said that we will have to do something here. The new batter was also under pressure, as ones and twos were hard to come by with the ball gripping. When I was playing in the Champions Trophy, I had a cut on my finger and bowled as desired.”

Axar Patel

“I wanted to lead from the front and that is what I am happy doing. I was thinking that if Starc could execute, we might win this. Bowling 12 yorkers in a row, that is why he is an Australian legend.”
