New Zealand won the fourth T20I against India by 50 runs on Wednesday, January 28, at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The visitors finally got off the mark in the five-game series, with a 1-3 record after four games.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field in the game. New Zealand openers Tim Seifert (62) and Devon Conway (44) laid the ground for their team after a 100-run stand in only 8.2 overs. His team was then carried to an intimidating total of 215/7 in its 20 overs as others like Daryl Mitchell (39) and a few cameos followed from his team-mates.

In response India collapsed to be all out for 165 in 18.4 overs, 51 runs behind. All-rounder Shivam Dube’s blistering 65 (23) for the hosts went in vain. The Black Caps’ bowler was the star performer, claiming three scalps.

At the post-match presentation, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner commented on the win, saying:
“It was nice! The way we started in the power play, was what India has been doing to us! But, that was a strong start. After the last game, we went back to the drawing board and told ourselves that 150 by no means is on here. 200 is bare minimum against them.”
He continued:
“There is no better prep than playing India in India, before the World Cup. We have a couple of guys coming back for the next game too. The pitch got a bit tacky and allowed for the ball to grip and turn, that helped immensely!”

The fifth and last T20I of the series will be held in Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium on Saturday, January 31.
