Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced their second straight loss of the Indian Premier League 2026 after they faced a defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 7 of the ongoing tournament at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Friday, April 03. Punjab, on the other hand, have four points on the board thanks to their two consecutive victories in the season.
The five-time champions had set a 210 run target and still not satisfied, the PBKS kept their dominance to the Chennai-based franchise and finished another run chase, a perfect one.
The visiting captain Shreyas Iyer had won the toss and chosen to go out first. The decision eventually worked wonders, as the pitch opened up and became better to bat in the second half of what seemed like a one-sided encounter. The consistency and dominance of Punjab in all their departments have now officially taken them to the top of the IPL 2026 Points Table.
Talking of the most effective acts, in the case of CSK, the attitude to attack demonstrated by Ayush Mhatre (73 off 43) did not cause a reduction in the confidence of the hosts despite the early exit of Sanju Samson. Sarfaraz Khan (32 off 12) and Shivam Dube (45 not-out off 27) also made a nice contribution to the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team which had scored 209-5 on the board in the first innings.
In the case of PBKS, Vijaykumar Vyshak was the bowlers choice as he took 2-38 in four overs to earn him the Purple Cap. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh started the run chase with a thunderous start with the bat. But skipper Shreyas Iyer was the chief plotter in the pursuit with his fifty. The fact that 36 out of 22 by Cooper Connolly is now an indicator that not only Orange but also Purple Cap is the possession of a player at PBKS.
In the meantime the internet was filled with trolls celebrating CSK losing the second in a row, and some even celebrated Punjab in a humorous way as they had defeated Chepauk in such a brilliant way.
