Australian cricketer Beth Mooney gave a response to India cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues in the WBBL 2025 opener between the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers in a humorous way. The funny part occurred when Rodrigues had jibed upon her coming back to Australia after her match-winning knock which had ended the Aussies in the semifinal of the ICC Women world cup.
Rodrigues had just a few weeks ago delivered one of the best innings in the Indian women history of cricket when she scored an unbeaten 127 runs against Australia in Navi Mumbai. Her all time record of 167 runs, skippered by Harmanpreet Kaur generated India to run down 339 runs, the highest successful run in the history of Woman world cup. India would later on win their first-ever world cup by beating South Africa in the final.

Ahead of her WBBL game for Brisbane Heat, Rodrigues joked about needing special permission to enter Australia after ending their World Cup campaign. Mooney, known for her sharp wit, replied during the Scorchers’ opener that Jemimah would always be welcome — “as long as she doesn’t bring that World Cup form back with her.” The friendly exchange left fans in splits and showcased the growing camaraderie between Indian and Australian women cricketers.
“We heard Jemi say earlier that she was worried they weren’t going to let her in the country because they beat us, but I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing. Thankfully, immigration let me in,” Mooney said

The crowd and commentators broke into laughter, enjoying Mooney’s wit and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, Rodrigues and Mooney had dismal starts to their WBBL 2025 campaigns. Jemimah scored only six runs off nine balls in Brisbane Heat’s seven-wicket loss to the Melbourne Renegades. Her discharge of Alice Capsey at the backward point concluded her brief tenure. On the other side, Mooney’s Perth Scorchers suffered a 10-wicket defeat against the Sixers, with the Australian opener failing to make an impact in her comeback outing.
