The warm-up match between Mumbai and Maharashtra was heated before the Ranji Trophy itself, which starts on October 15. The game was held in the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The two teams were also playing the game to train their combinations prior to the domestic season.
Prithvi Shaw, batting at the beginning, had a superb strike against his previous team, he got a century in only 140 balls. He opened his gigantic season of 305 runs with Arshin Kulkarni who scored 186 runs out of 140 balls. Shaw was attacking when Kulkarni was dismissed but he was punishing the bowlers of Mumbai with so much ease.
In the 74th over, Shaw was caught by Irfan Umair off Musheer Khan’s bowling for a superb 181 off 220 balls, which included 21 fours and three sixes. After dismissing him, Musheer reportedly said, “Thank you,” which didn’t go down well with Shaw.
The situation quickly became tense as Shaw exchanged words with Musheer. Umpires and teammates, including Siddesh Lad, stepped in to control the argument. Shaw was eventually escorted away from the Mumbai players after allegedly trying to lift his bat and grab Musheer’s collar during the heated moment.

— INSANE (@1120_insane) October 7, 2025 “It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all ok now and there is no issue,” Ankit Bhawne, the captain of Maharashtra side, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

As of the time of this publication, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) has not given any information regarding the issue of escalated matter.
After leaving Mumbai to move to Maharashtra and severing ties with his hometown, Shaw is hoping to revive his ailing career by the time the 2025-26 season comes around. The 25-year-old will not want to be involved in unnecessary bouts but rather stick to the game and keep adding the runs.
