Shreyas Iyer has a word with Yuzvendra Chahal

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 34th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, April 18, at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Both teams will want to maintain their strong start to the season in this year’s lucrative league.

1. Phil Salt vs Arshdeep Singh2. Glenn Maxwell vs Krunal Pandya3. Rajat Patidar vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Third in the standings with eight points and an NRR of +0.672, RCB has won four of their last six games. As the IPL 2025 draws to a close, Rajat Patidar and colleagues will be cautious because both of their losses this season have occurred at home.

In this year’s lucrative competition, PBKS has also enjoyed a stellar run. With the same number of points but a lower NRR of +0.172 after six games, they are positioned just below RCB in the standings.

Both teams will try to maintain the momentum after winning their last games. Some elite and successful players from RCB and PBKS will face off in tonight’s match.

Having said that, let’s examine three player bouts to be aware of in today’s well-known competition.

1. Phil Salt vs Arshdeep Singh

Phil Salt trains at the Chinnaswamy Stadium

The batsman-wicketkeeper has maintained his form from the previous campaign, when he was instrumental in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ championship run. Phil Salt has amassed 208 runs at a strike rate of more than 185 in six games, helping RCB get off to a daring start.

But PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has previously caused him problems, will be Salt’s opponent. In the game’s shortest format, the left-arm pacer has removed the Englishman twice in 25 deliveries while giving up only 20 runs.

The RCB opener’s job may become more challenging if Arshdeep is able to return the ball to the right-hander.

2. Glenn Maxwell vs Krunal Pandya

The star all-rounder has had a terrible IPL 2025 season thus far, amassing just 41 runs at an average of 8.20 and a strike rate of 100 in six games. Glenn Maxwell would like to put up a better show tonight because he has appeared to be a shell of his former self.

When he faces Bengaluru all-rounder Krunal Pandya, who has already dismissed him five times, his anxiety could increase even more. Maxwell will therefore need to prepare for the possibility that the ball would elude him in the face of an experienced Krunal.

3. Rajat Patidar vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Punjab Kings’ Yuzvendra Chahal (R) bowls during the Indian Premier League

Since IPL 2022, the RCB captain has been one of the top scorers between overs seven and fifteen. Bengaluru made it to the playoffs last year thanks in large part to Rajat Patidar’s ability to lift the ante in the middle phase, and he has done so again this year.

Yuzvendra Chahal, a seasoned spinner who is the most familiar with this ground, will face Patidar. With 58 wickets in 44 innings, the sly leg-spinner holds the record at the Chinnaswamy. He played for the Royal Challengers for eight seasons.

Chahal would be feeling quite confident after taking four wickets against Kolkata in the last game. His matchup with Patidar in the middle overs might decide the outcome of the match for either team.
