Rohit Sharma appeared to be getting back to his best during Thursday’s IPL 2025 encounter between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mumbai. With 16 balls, the right-hander scored 26 runs. Then, off a full toss, Travis Head caught him at cover off Pat Cummins’ bowling.
He had, however, given MI a strong start in their 163-run chase. The 37-year-old put early pressure on SRH by smashing three sixes, including two massive hits in one Mohammed Shami over. The former MI captain’s greatest score of the season was achieved. With scores of 0,8, 13, 17, and 18 in his last five games, he has had a challenging start to the season.

Anjum Chopra, the former captain of the Indian women’s team, had said before the game that MI might think about moving Rohit lower in the order to get back to his previous level of play.
“I mean, they have options, they can always look at pushing Rohit Sharma down the order or not utilizing all those options are always there. But it’s not that Rohit Sharma is out of form, it’s just that sometimes you don’t start the tournament on that good a note or that high a note and it can affect you as a batter or as a player as well.”

MI put in disciplined bowling performance to restrict SRH to 162
Earlier, MI skipper Hardik Pandya’s bowlers supported his choice to bowl first after winning the toss. They played with discipline and held SRH to 162/5 in their 20 overs.
Will Jacks executed an outstanding bowling performance for MI by taking 2 wickets with 14 runs conceded while removing Travis Head from the match. Five MI bowlers shared the wickets among them with each taking a single dismissal but Pandya and Bumrah and Trent Boult achieved one wicket each.
Within the match, SRH batsman Abhishek Sharma scored 40 runs off 28 balls making it his highest total against MI.
