England's Ben Stokes after day five of the Third Rothesay Men's Test at Lord's

The third Test between England and India at Lord’s ended on an exciting note, with both teams fighting hard to the end. On Monday, July 14, the game came down to the last second as the hosts ultimately prevailed by 22 runs.

Contents
1. Most ‘Player of the Match’ awards in Tests at Lord’s2. Fourth lowest successfully defended total in a Test at Lord’s3. Four consecutive 50-plus scores for India in England in Tests4. Highest score for Ravindra Jadeja in the fourth innings5. India’s longest ninth-wicket stands in Tests at Lord’s

India, with a target of 193 runs to score in the final innings, started off the day at 58/4. The beginning was not good because they lost three huge wickets within a short period. Throughout the English bowlers kept up the pressure and chipped away at the wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja was also not out making 61 runs off 181 balls. He fought a good battle along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj who spent a lot of time at the crease. They were bowled out on the same day by the visitors 170, agonisingly short.

England’s Jofra Archer with captain Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer each took three wickets at the conclusion of the innings. England now leads the five-match Test series 2-1 after this victory. In light of that, the following five records/milestones were achieved by England and India on Day 5 of the third Test match.

1. Most ‘Player of the Match’ awards in Tests at Lord’s

Ben Stokes, the skipper England, led not just his side to its first ever historic win but led his side with the bat as well. His contributions were making 77 runs and taking five wickets in both innings, contributing to the team and winning the award of the Player of the Match.

It is the fourth time he has been awarded Player of the Match in Tests at Lord s, and the most by a player in the format at the venue. His other awards of that type were against New Zealand in 2015, the West Indies in 2017, and Australia in 2019.

2. Fourth lowest successfully defended total in a Test at Lord’s

England won the Lord’s Test and took a 2-1 series lead after successfully defending 193 runs. Interestingly, this is the format’s fourth-lowest successfully defended total at this location.

England’s defense of 183 runs against New Zealand in 1955, 182 runs against Ireland in 2019, and Australia’s most successful defense of the lowest total, 124 against England in 1888, are the other three examples.

3. Four consecutive 50-plus scores for India in England in Tests

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj of India look on during Day Five of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match

Ravindra Jadeja, an Indian all-rounder, has attained another milestone. He became just the third hitter in the country to score 50 or more in four straight Test matches for England.

In the third game, he amassed 72 runs in the first innings and an undefeated 61 in the second. Jadeja scored 89 runs in the second game in Birmingham and 69 runs in the second innings. The only other players who have accomplished this feat are Rishabh Pant (five times from 2021–2025) and former captain Sourav Ganguly (four times in 2002).

4. Highest score for Ravindra Jadeja in the fourth innings

Ravindra Jadeja, an all-rounder for India, fought hard, hitting an undefeated 61 off 181 balls with four boundaries and a six. In the fourth innings, this is Jadeja’s highest Test score to date.

He also achieved a half-century in the fourth innings for the first time. He had previously scored 42 in the format’s fourth innings against New Zealand in Pune in 2024.

5. India’s longest ninth-wicket stands in Tests at Lord’s

India’s highest ninth-wicket stand in a Test match at Lord’s was played by star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah provided Ravindra Jadeja with capable support from one end on the fifth day of the third game at the legendary stadium. The pair contributed 35 runs while batting for 132 balls, the highest ninth-wicket stand in the format at the location for India.

Notably, Bumrah also played a part in the longest ninth-wicket partnership in history. This occurred during a 120-ball partnership he had with Mohammad Shami during the 2021 Test at Lord’s.
