The latest photo of Harmanpreet Kaur holding the World Cup trophy before the Gateway of India has gone viral due to the clear resemblance of her image with that of MS Dhoni in the 2011 world cup. Both captains were observed glorifying the trophy fourteen years later on in Mumbai after they had led India to glory. Dhoni wore a blazer and shirt to his photo shoot although Harmanpreet wore the India ODI jersey, which was a representation of the pride of the women team.
India’s triumph in the 2025 Women’s World Cup marked their first-ever 50-over title in women’s cricket. In 2011, Dhoni’s men’s team lifted the World Cup after a gap of 28 years. Interestingly, both historic victories came in Mumbai — the men’s team clinched theirs at the Wankhede Stadium, while Harmanpreet Kaur’s side sealed glory at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

— ICC (@ICC) November 3, 2025 The 2025 final between Harmanpreet and South Africa resulted in a 52-run victory of the former, who was on an all-round performance. In the same way, Dhoni men won by six wickets over Sri Lanka in the final of 2011 and completed the chase with 10 balls remaining. Both teams demonstrated their ability to remain calm in a stress situation and perform at their best moments.

Another fascinating similarity between the two tournaments lies in their Player of the Tournament winners. All-rounder Yuvraj Singh earned the honor in 2011 for his spectacular all-round performance, while Deepti Sharma replicated that feat in 2025 with her match-winning displays. Both players became the heartbeat of India’s success stories on cricket’s grandest stage.
