Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has also brought up an interesting argument concerning a rule of cricket that according to him should be reviewed. He proposed that a ball is not to be manually pronounced dead when an on field umpire makes a decision, and the decision is subsequently reversed by the DRS. He made the remarks following one of the most controversial incidents in the fourth T20I between India and Australia that involved Shubman Gill.
In the 14 th over, Gill was dismissed lbw on the first ball. The first thing that the vice-captain did was to have a review, as he was convinced that he had beaten the ball by the time it landed on his pad. Replays showed definite inside edge and the ruling was reversed. But despite the fact that Gill and Suryakumar Yadav had already taken one before the umpire made his ruling, the run was not counted since the ball was declared dead in him as a result of the lbw.

Irfan Pathan later explained that such moments can be unfair to the batting side. He argued that if the decision is reversed and the batter is found not out, the play should continue as normal, and any runs completed before the umpire’s decision should be added to the total. According to Irfan, this would make the rule fairer and more consistent with the spirit of the game.
Umpire gives it out, batter reviews, it’s not out, so why is the batting team losing a run? Makes no sense. Time for a rule change.
