India women cricketer, batter Jemimah Rodrigues has come forward with an emotional post about the message offered by all-rounder Annabel Sutherland after India lost to Australia in its semi-final in the Women World Cup 2025. Jemimiah had already performed a 127 with 134 balls without a miss in a brilliant bat display that prompted her team in a record run effort to the World Cup championship and a legendary win in the history of World Cup.
The Mumbai native said on text that the all-rounder and her Delhi Capitals teammate Sutherland praised the former’s effort with the bat, and she also admitted that it was a moment to remember. Both were recently retained by DC ahead of the WPL 2026 big auction. Jemimah admitted that she liked Sutherland’s benign demeanor and was thrilled to represent DC beside her.

“After the game, it was heartbreaking for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy and how much she loves her cricket, even though she doesn’t always show it. She messaged me saying, ‘The character you’ve shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight.” stated Jemimah in a post on DC’s Instagram account.
“I looked at that message and thought, what a person! They had just suffered the most heartbreaking loss, yet she still reached out to a friend to encourage me, even though we were opponents at that moment. I have mad respect for her. She’s going to do special things for Australia, which is scary for us, but also for DC. I’m so glad we’ll share the dressing room again,” she added.

The three-time WPL runners-up have retained both DC stars for INR 2.2 crore each. However, it remains to be seen how the franchise will assemble the rest of its roster at the major auction on November 27, which will take place in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, and Niki Prasad will earn INR 2.2 crore, INR 2.2 crore, and INR 50 lakh respectively. In addition, the Delhi-based club has released several key players, including Meg Lanning, N. Shree Charani, Radha Yadav, and Arundhati Reddy. Therefore, the auction will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s new core for the upcoming season.
