Meghalaya's Akash Choudhary after hitting six sixes in an over (and eight consecutive sixes in all)

The Akash Kumar Choudhary of Meghalaya batting stunned the history of the cricket world by crashing the fast-fifty record in the history of the First-Class cricket. He also hit the mark in 11 balls during the Round 4 of the Ranji Trophy 202526 match against Arunachal Pradesh at Surat. The next day, the second day of the game, Akash had a six-hitting streak, hitting the boundary eight consecutive times to make history and leaving the spectators with a mouth-opened form of disbelief.

This fantastic performance made Akash the other only second player in Ranji Trophy history to hit six sixes in an over. The pioneer was former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri who did so when playing in Bombay (now, Mumbai). It is a feat not accomplished by many and that makes Akash an elite company with other players such as Yuvraj Singh, Herschelle Gibbs, and Kieron Pollard among others who have earned the same in limited-overs formats.

By completing his fifty in just 11 balls, Akash broke the long-standing record held by Leicestershire’s Wayne White, who had reached the landmark in 12 balls in a 2012 county game against Essex. Before that, Michael van Vuuren held the record with a 13-ball fifty in South Africa’s domestic circuit during the 1984–85 season. Akash’s explosive knock has now rewritten the global record books.

The Indian record in the fastest fifty of the First-Class game had been previously set by Bandeep Singh of Jammu & Kashmir with a record of 15 balls almost a decade earlier than the feats of Akash. Bandeep has shared that record with the one Pakistan Khalid Mahmood had achieved in the 200001 season playing with Gujranwala. The history of Ranji Trophy is now imprinted with Akash making the record innings.
