Mohit Sharma in IPL 2024

Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma has confirmed that he is retiring to all cricket, and the end of his 12-year career. The 37-year-old pacer posted an Instagram post on December 3, expressing gratitude to the teammates, coaches, and supporters.

Mohit also played 26 ODIs and eight T20Is representing India in the years between 2013 and 2015 with 35 ODI wickets and six T20I wickets. He also represented India in the 2015 ODI world cup where he won 13 wickets. He played 120 games in four teams, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans, and in that time, he took 134 wickets and made himself reliable one among the dependable bowlers during death overs.

In his resignation letter, Mohit expressed gratitude towards the Haryana Cricket Association and Anirudh Chaudhry for guiding him throughout his career. He also thanked his wife for putting up with the ride of professional sports.

Mohit Sharma won Purple Cap in IPL 2014

Mohit Sharma picked up three wickets

Mohit’s breakthrough came during the domestic season of 2012-13, when he took 37 wickets under the guidance of speed coach Ian Pont. His achievements landed him a contract with the Chennai Super Kings in 2013, where he thrived under MS Dhoni. In 2014, he received the Purple Cap for capturing 23 wickets.

He was capped for India that year and quickly became a useful support seamer in ODIs and T20s. Mohit caught the eye in the IPL with his variations — one of the slower deliveries was simply outsized, and he could deliver a wicked back-of-the-hand slower ball. He picked up 57 wickets in death overs in his IPL career.

He then claimed 13 wickets during the 2024 season before he was picked up by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. He played his last game for DC earlier this year and was released before the 2026 auction.
