On Monday (January 5), India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma, the country’s first-ever Women’s World Cup-winning skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, and other Indian cricketers attended a star-studded ceremony in Mumbai to honor the champions. The players gathered as the Reliance Foundation thanked the men’s, women’s, and blind women’s teams. reported ANI.

Aside from the captains, several notable Indian cricketers attended the ceremony, including Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues. The occasion was attended by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepika TC have been instrumental in India ruling the World Cups over the past two years.

Rohit was skippering Team India when they lifted their second T20 World cup trophy with an seven-run win over South Africa in the 2024 final at Barbados. The highest individual score in the final was made by Virat Kohli with 76. The victory helped Rohit break India’s 11-year trophy jinx. Men in Blue claim their second T20 World Cup 17 years after claiming the inaugural title in 2007. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in their title defence in India next month.

Five years later, Harmanpreet Kaur spearheaded India Women’s triumph to secure their first ICC trophy since 2022. India thrashed Australia 3–0 in the semi-finals and then defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final. Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma delivered standout all-round performances for the Women in Blue, contributing 87 runs with two wickets and 58 runs with figures of 5/39, respectively. The team will now aim to carry this momentum into the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.

On the other hand, Deepti TC led France chased down 115 to defeat Nepal by seven wickets and lift the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind.

Meanwhile, the men will return to action on January 11 with a white-ball home series against New Zealand. In contrast, the women’s side will shift focus to the WPL 2026, which begins on January 9.
