On Wednesday, January 7, India’s star opener Rohit Sharma chastised a parent for leaving their youngster unattended at an airport. As the 38-year-old was about to enter the Mumbai airport, a small girl crossed his path. Rohit carefully guarded her and inquired as to whose child she was.
When the man confirmed she was his, Rohit responded with a mix of surprise and mild reprimand, saying:
“Aap kya kar rahe ho yaar.” [What are you doing, man?]

However, Rohit will next prepare for a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which starts Sunday, January 11 in Vadodara. This will be India’s first international match of 2026.
In preparation, Rohit turned out for Mumbai in a few Vijay Hazare Trophy games in 2025-26. He hammered 155 from 94 balls against Sikkim, with 18 fours and nine sixes. But the opener had a contrasting outing in the next match where he was dismissed for a golden duck against Uttarakhand.

He has scored 1,073 runs in 29 innings at an average of 38.32 and a strike rate of 85.84. His career includes six half-centuries and two centuries, with his best being 147, scored in 2017 at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.
In the meantime, Rohit is now atop the ICC ODI batting charts — the only international format he currently plays. In 279 ODIs, the Indian talisman has scored a whopping 11,516 runs in 271 innings with an impressive average of 49.21 and a strike rate of 92.85. He also has 61 half-centuries, 33 centuries, and a top career score of 264.
