India veteran batsman Virat Kohli was left in disbelief on Saturday after watching his stumps shattered by sneaky inside edge as the visitors faced New Zealand at Mount Maunganui on Saturday. The match will be played on Wednesday, January 14 at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
The dismissal came in the third delivery of India’s 24th over. Clarke sent a 128.4 kph back-of-a-length delivery outside off that slanted in, Kohli was looking to nudge it well but got a thick inside edge which clattered into his middle stump.

Pressure on KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja to rescue India after Virat Kohli wicket

Opting to bat, India’s opening duo of skipper Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma did not get off the blocks in positive manner, collecting only 10 runs after five overs. The pair then countered, adding 47 runs in the next 30 balls as Men in Blue ended the powerplay on 57/0.
The duo eventually added 70 off 74 balls before Kristian Clarke found Rohit short of the crease after he made a run-a-ball 24 with four boundaries. Kohli walked in at three and slashed his very first ball to the fence. For now, Gill registered his second half-century of the series but he did not convert it into a big score, scoring 56 off 53 balls with nine fours and a six.

India’s middle order could not get going after a fine start, as vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also disappointingly fell cheaply for eight. Virat Kohli, too, fell cheaply for 23 as India went from 99/1 to 118/4 in the second ODI against New Zealand. After the initial blows, KL Rahul and Jadeja combined in an important partnership as India posted 284/7 in 50 overs.
