India overtook England by seven runs in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Wankhede Stadium on March 5 to secure a final slot. They now have to face New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi stadium.
India opened the match and had scored a colossal 253/7 on their 20 overs. The lean run of Abhishek Sharma was not affected much after he went off to nine, but the blow was not too big. The second wicket overturned the game as Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan scored 97 runs on a total of 45 balls. Samson was the best performer and he had broken 89 out of 42 hits with eight fours and seven sixes with the incredible strike rate of 211.90.

Kishan contributed with a rapid 39 in 18 balls and Shivam Dube gave late thrust with 43 in 25 balls. Hardik Pandya contributed 27 out of 12 balls and Tilak Varma blasted 21 in only seven balls propelling India to a 250-mark. Will Jacks (2/40) and Adil Rashid (2/41) were the choice of bowlers to England.
England responded with a furious counterattack and ended the 20 overs at 246/7. Jacob Bethell struck with a sensational knock on the score of 105 in 48 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes, and the strike rate of 218.75. Will Jacks had added 35 out of 20 balls, and the two sewed up a 77-run partnership out of 39 balls in the fifth wicket. Betell also provided a second 50-run partnership with Sam Curran at the sixth wicket to keep the Englishmen in the game.

Nevertheless, frequent wickets during the mid innings were disadvantageous to England. Hardik Pandya made the best bowling effort in the Indian side with India figures of 2/38 in his four overs, with Varun Chakravarthy suffering an expensive day, giving away 64 runs.
This win is the fourth T20 world cup final an Indian team has ever qualified in, the most by any team, and will hope to become the champion and the first team in history to win the world cup three times.
