Rajasthan Royals (RR) have had a huge blow before the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) as all-rounder and new recruit Sam Curran has gone down with a groin injury hence rendering him unavailable to participate in the tournament.
Curran was to serve his first season in Guwahati and Jaipur by him and Ravindra Jadeja being acquired as trades in the place of Sanju Samson in Chennai Super Kings (CSK). RR would be the third IPL team of the England all-rounder who represented CSK and Punjab Kings earlier.
However, it now means that the 27 year old will wait to make his debut to his new franchise having been ruled out of the tournament due to his most recent injury. The final match of the left-hander was the semi-final of the England T20 world cup with India where they lost by a margin of seven-runs.
Reportedly, RR are contemplating on getting a replacement of the injured Curran. This is likely to be a word received in the nearest future with the champions of 2008 to play their opening match at Guwahati against CSK in 11 days time.
Sam Curran’s IPL 2026 Hopes Dented by Untimely Injury
Curran had been projected as one of the starting overseas players in RR 2026 IPL on current good form in England, as well as in the franchise circuit with the Desert Vipers having won their maiden ILT20 championship, and him being named as the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP).
England all-rounder would have a fresh life at RR following his poor season in Chennai in 2025. He contributed in the last season only five times to CSK and only one wicket.
Sam Curran is unlucky to get the news of his injury on the day when both CSK and Kolkata Knights Riders (KKR) had received misfortune news on their overseas bowlers. The five time champions have lost Australia-based Nathan Ellis to a hamstring injury and KKR might lose Sri Lanka based Matheesha Pathirana who has not received a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by his cricketing board.
