Virat Kohli, a Royal challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter fell dead after scoring 19 out of 13 deliveries when he tried to take on Lungi Ngidi right up front in the Indian premier league (IPL) 2026 match between the Royal challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC). It was the lowest score by the opening batter in the campaign to date with the defending champions losing their first wicket in the afternoon battle on the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
Virat Kohli showed some early initiative, scoring some early boundaries against DC’s Indian pace duo of Auqib Nabi and Mukesh Kumar. He was playing second fiddle when Phil Salt brought the bowlers along on with his new look.

RCB were put under a bit of pressure as Mukesh Kumar conceded only seven runs off the fourth over. Their opening two made a reaction by scoring 18 runs in the following over and Kohli was on a mission to inflict more pain in the last over in the powerplay. Attempting to get the best out of the remaining few feet of fielding restriction the star batter walked down the track towards Lungi Ngidi to put him over the off side.
However, he could not middle the lofted attempt, and found Pathum Nissanka in the deep. Take a glance at the dismissal just here.
Lungi Ngidi had just sacked Virat Kohli in the ODI series between India and South Africa in late 2025. He also had sacked the star batter in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Perth.
RCB going strong despite Virat Kohli’s dismissal against DC in IPL 2026

On a pleasant note, Lungi Ngidi brought to an end the powerplay to the benefit of DC having sent Virat Kohli back and offering no more than seven of his runs. The duo of Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal tackled Kuldeep Yadav with caution, but they capitalised on T Natarajan’s over to get their middle overs charge going.
By the time of this report, RCB are sitting at 79-1, eight-overs into the match, with Phil Salt looking to make his second fifty of three games.
