The International Cricket Council (ICC) selected Shubman Gill from India along with Alana King of Australia as the winners of the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month awards for February 2025.
The ICC Men’s Player of the Month distinction goes to Gill because of his exceptional batting performances which earned India their ODI series sweep against England and a hundred in the opening Bangladesh match at Dubai. The Indian team won their ICC Men’s Champions Trophy around the same time that Gill received this award.
In the meantime, spin maestro King earns the title of ICC Women’s Player of the Month for the third consecutive year after leading her team to victory in the stand-alone Ashes Test match against England in Melbourne with impressive bowling performances.
Both players were crowned after a vote by international fans who had registered on the ICC website and a panel of experts made up of media representatives, former international players, and members of the ICC Hall of Famers.
Gill defeats Australia’s Steve Smith and fellow ICC Men’s Champions Trophy finalist Glenn Phillips of New Zealand to win his third ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.
After defeating Thai player Thipatcha Putthawong and her countrywoman Annabel Sutherland to win February’s trophy, King took home her first ICC Women’s Player of the Month honor.
Gill’s run-scoring exploits throughout February helped him regain his position at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings with 406 runs throughout the calendar month and an average of more than 100.
The 25-year-old had three successful ODI matches against England to start the month. He scored 87 and 60 in the first two ODI matches before a spectacular 112 in Ahmedabad completed a dominant run of performances and the series sweep.

As the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy got underway, he maintained his run with confidence, hitting a vital and fashionable 101 not out against a determined Bangladesh under the lights in Dubai to chase down 229 for victory and put India on track to win a trophy.
“I am elated to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February. Nothing gives me more motivation than performing with the bat and winning matches for my country.
Shubman Gill

The ICC Women’s Player of the Month King demonstrated multiple destructive bowling displays during the Ashes series on Australian soil. Her performances played a crucial role as the home team won their stand-alone Test match at Melbourne before the Ashes series began.
King gained ground in the English middle order after winning the toss and choosing to bowl. She earned figures of four for 45, sabotaging any opposing momentum with the crucial wickets of Sciver-Brunt, Dunkley, and Wyatt-Hodge.
After England had to chase a substantial 270 to avoid losing the innings, King once again took charge in the second inning. She dismissed the dangerous Tammy Beaumont and then dominated the remainder of the order to record a career-best Test return of five for 53 and leave her name on the prestigious Melbourne Cricket Ground honors board.
“It’s been a big summer for the girls, and we’re obviously really pleased to have retained the Ashes the way we did.
Alana King
“I was proud to have played a role in that success and will remember that series, in particular the Test match, for a long time. There’s no bigger stage than an Ashes Test on the MCG and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”
