Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) believes that Josh Hazlewood’s two-wicket burst at the beginning of the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) chase was the pivotal moment in Friday, March 28’s IPL 2025 at Chepauk. Hazlewood reduced the batting side to 8-2 by dismissing Rahul Tripathi (5) and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) in a single over.
At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, RCB defeated CSK by 50 runs in the eighth IPL 2025 match. Thus, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai at Chepauk for the first time in 17 years. Not only that, but RCB also handed CSK the most home loss in terms of runs.
The Bengaluru players gave some standout performances throughout the encounter versus Chennai. But according to Gaikwad, the game’s pivotal moment was Hazlewood’s opening spell. As cited by Cricbuzz, he stated:
“It was the game-changing moment because I think we got 2-3 wickets in the powerplay, t was amazing to see how they bowled the hard length consistently.”

Tripathi chipped a straightforward catch to midwicket after attempting to lift a short ball from Hazlewood. Additionally, Gaikwad lost his wicket after top-edged an attempted pull. During the powerplay, Deepak Hooda (4) was caught behind off Bhuvneshwar Kumar, reducing CSK to 26-3. In addition to Hazlewood (3-21), Liam Livingstone (2-28) and Yash Dayal (2-18) made an impression with the ball.
“We were targeting around 200” – Rajat Patidar on RCB’s batting effort against CSK

Prior to the bowling unit’s outstanding performance, the RCB hitters also performed admirably. When asked to take the first strike, they scored 196-7. With 51 off 32 balls, Patidar took the lead, but Tim David (22* off 18) and Phil Salt (32 off 16) had significant cameos. Regarding RCB’s batting performance throughout the game, Patidar stated:
“It was a good total on this surface. Ball was stopping a bit and it wasn’t easy for batters. It’s always special playing at Chepauk against Chennai because of the fans. Not only CSK but every team, it is nice to play in their home ground. We were targeting around 200 because we knew it wasn’t easy to chase.
