Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Virat Kohli (2L) hugs Chennai Super Kings' MS Dhoni (C) at the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket match

On Friday, March 28, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their second IPL 2025 match to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a dismal score of 50 runs. At Chepauk Stadium, it was RCB’s first triumph over the home team since 2008.

On a dry surface in Chennai, RCB lost the toss and chose to bat first. The other RCB batsmen, with the exception of Virat Kohli (31 in 30 balls), played with aggression. They assisted their team in scoring an incredible 196 for seven during the match. With three wickets, Noor Ahmad was the only player to have an effect for CSK in the spin department. As the opposition hitters dominated them, veteran Indian spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja had a bad day.

In the second innings, the CSK batting team gave up easily and without a fight, making it one-way traffic. The performance by Josh Hazlewood (3/21) and Co. was clinical. They helped RCB win the second straight IPL 2025 match by holding the opposition to 146/8 in the second innings.

MS Dhoni entered the batting order at position nine. After the outcome was obvious, he hammered three fours and two sixes to stay undefeated on 30* (16).

On X (previously known as Twitter), fans vented their annoyance at CSK’s subpar performance against RCB in Friday’s IPL 2025 match by posting memes. The top memes are as follows:

“I think it was a good total on this surface”- RCB captain Rajat Patidar said after winning IPL 2025 clash vs CSK

Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar get ready for the game

The batting unit’s overall performance was praised by RCB captain Rajat Patidar during the post-match presentation since they achieved a score that was higher than expected. Considering the victory, he remarked:

“I think it was a good total on this surface. It wasn’t easy for the batters to hit boundaries and sixes easily. It’s always special playing at Chepauk. The way they support the team is great. It’s always amazing to play in their home ground as they support every team. We were targetting around 200 runs. We knew it wasn’t easy to chase.”

Patidar added:

“My goal was clear, as long as I was there I need to maximize every bowler. I don’t think so, it was the same line up like the previous game so it was same. This track was pretty much helpful, I knew I could use my spinners earlier. The way Livingstone came and bowled it was superb. It was amazing to see how Hazlewood and Bhuvi bowled in the hard lengths.”

On Sunday, March 30, CSK will play the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Guwahati. At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB will make their comeback to the field on April 2 against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
