On Wednesday, April 16, the 32nd game of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at DC’s home stadium, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
On Sunday, April 13, the Mumbai Indians (MI) ended DC’s four-match winning streak, handing them their first loss of the IPL 2025 season. After controlling most of the chase, DC’s batting unit suffered a catastrophic collapse, which pushed the middle-order hitters to the test.
RR has lost four of their last six games and is still struggling to establish their groove. The team will desperately need wins from now on in order to finish in the top four, as they have only managed two victories thus far.
Here are the three player matchups to look out for as the two teams prepare to face off:
1. Sanju Samson vs Vipraj Nigam

This year, Viraj Nigam of Delhi is having an incredible season. In addition to being a good bowler, he has shown off his skill with the ball by dismissing some of the league’s best players. India mainstays Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are among the top names.
When he bowls against RR captain Sanju Samson, he will have another chance to add another well-known name to his collection. In his assigned role as an opener, Samson would try to play a captain’s knock to give the team a head start. He is renowned to play big innings in important occasions. However, Nigam would like to play spoiler to Samson’s ambitions.
2. KL Rahul vs Sandeep Sharma

In T20 cricket, wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and Sandeep Sharma have a strong record against one another. Prior to Mumbai bowlers stopping his momentum and dismissing him for a low score during DC’s game against MI on Sunday, the DC hitter had several game-winning performances to his credit.
It will be intriguing to watch who wins this matchup because KL is dominating the middle overs and Sandeep is giving it his all throughout that period. Rahul has struck 93 runs off 84 deliveries against the RR spinner in the last 11 years, going out to him just once during these games.
3. Karun Nair vs Jofra Archer

In his debut for DC against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Karun Nair was in outstanding form. His departure caused a batting collapse as DC, who had won four straight games, suffered their first loss of the season. He was only a few runs short of a well-earned century.
At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where DC will play their second straight home game against RR, Nair will be fired up and hoping to maintain the same performance against the Men in Pink. The batsman, who is positioned in the top order, will probably take on the ferocious Jofra Archer, which should make for an exciting bat-ball match.
