On Tuesday, May 6, the 56th IPL 2025 match took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets using the DLS system. Consequently, after their eighth victory in 11 games, GT took back the top spot in the points table.
MI began batting first after losing the toss and managed to score 155 for eight wickets in their 20-over inning. As the hosts’ top scorer Will Jacks made a half-century alongside vital contributions from Suryakumar Yadav with 35 runs and Corbin Bosch with 25 runs. In the match GT’s left-hand orthodox slow over specialist R Sai Kishore took two wickets.
Jos Buttler (30), Sherfane Rutherford (28), and Shubman Gill (43), in reply, made sure GT remained in the chase until rain stopped play after 18 overs. Since 15 runs were needed in the final over, the target was then changed because of a rain break. Rahul Tewatia (11) and Gerald Coetzee (12) defeated Deepak Chahar by scoring the necessary runs.

The game between the GT and MI franchises on Tuesday night was well-liked by the crowd. On X (previously known as Twitter), they posted amusing memes to express their responses to the exciting game. The top memes are as follows:

Hardik Pandya Admits MI Fell Short by Crucial Runs

MI skipper Hardik Pandya offered the following reflection on the defeat during the post-match presentation:
“Definitely a tough way to go down. But we fought well, especially with the kind of total we had. It was definitely not a 155-run wicket. We were short by 10-15 runs or maybe 30 runs. But we kept fighting. It was a game of margins. We were clinical with the catches.”
Hardik Pandya
“But we could have been better with no-balls. My no-balls. It is a crime. It comes back to bite you in T20s. In the first innings, the ground was not wet. In our bowling innings, the ball kept on getting wet. I don’t know if it helped us or went against us. I am proud of the boys for they kept fighting and kept us in the game.”

On Wednesday, May 7, the 57th IPL 2025 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
