India's captain Rohit Sharma (R) interacts with fielding coach T. Dilip as they check the pitch during a practice session at the Narendra Modi Stadium

The former fielding coach of the Indian men’s team, T Dilip, is expected to return to his position in the national lineup. Prior to working for Gautam Gambhir for over a year, he was employed by Rahul Dravid.

According to Cricbuzz, the Hyderabad cricket team has given its head coach a temporary extension for one year. In a month, he will travel to England for the Indian team’s five-Test series.

Dilip was originally signed until May and there was a strong feeling that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would not extend his contract. An official from the BCCI told Shastri, Abhishek Nayar and other members of the support staff that they would no longer be needed after their contracts ended.

Rohit Sharma, the former Test captain, was known to be close to those instructors. According to reports, the head coach wanted a small and efficient support staff because Gambhir reportedly wanted a more significant role in the Indian squad setup. Consequently, two more members of the coaching staff were dismissed, namely fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Abhishek Nayar.

However, it is currently understood that Rohit has convinced both the BCCI and Gambhir to keep T Dilip as fielding coach. Even though Nayar has been Rohit’s friend for a long time, he decided to leave and join the Kolkata Knight Riders. But Dilip’s situation was distinct.

According to sources, Rohit directly asked Gambhir to keep Dilip, even though he was done playing Test cricket. At first, it was thought that Ryan ten Doeschate would fill Dilip’s place while he was away. But now that the 44-year-old is back in the lineup, the former captain of the Netherlands will remain the assistant coach.

Dilip has become extremely popular in the Indian dressing room due to his innovative fielding techniques. The finest fielder medals, which have become very famous even among fans, were introduced thanks in large part to him.

The BCCI was eager to hire a fielding coach from abroad, but they were unable to locate the right person, according to an Indian Express story. Dilip, who was fired in April, rejoins the team.

Meanwhile, the India A team has arrived in England, accompanied by a few Test squad players. Every player, with the exception of Akash Deep, has checked into the Kent team hotel. Akash Deep is anticipated to join the team in the coming days, well in advance of the first unofficial Test match between the England Lions and India A, which is set for Canterbury from May 30 to June 2. The Bengal seamer is currently free after the Rishabh Pant-led team’s final game on Tuesday, May 27. He was a member of the Lucknow Super Giants’ roster during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
