Jasprit Bumrah addressed a press conference after Day 2 of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s on Friday, June 11, and there was an exceptionally humorous moment. One of the journalists’ mobile phones began to ring. Bumrah said, “Someone’s wife is calling,” but she did not answer the phone.
Due to workload management, the lead bowler missed the previous Test, but he returned strongly at Lord’s, taking another five-fer in the opening innings. As India knocked England out for 387, he recorded 5-74 from 27 overs. On Day 2, the hosts put up a strong fight to cut India to 145-3 by stumps.
At a news conference after the play on the second day, Bumrah shared a humorous moment with the reporters while responding to a question. When a reporter’s cell phone began to ring, he joked:
“Somebody’s wife is calling, so I will not pick it up. I just left it that way.”

The media were inconsolable at the Indian fast bowler’s clever remark.

On a more serious note, Bumrah was questioned about whether he had altered his bowling technique for the encounter with the Lord. He acknowledged that the pitch was a tad bit slower in his negative response. He shared his opinions on the surface and his bowling for the third Test match:
“There were not many technical changes that I made. The wicket was a little on the slower side. But we always knew that when the wicket is softer, with the heat going in, the wicket will get faster and the wicket did quicken up a little bit. Nothing massively that I changed.”

Jasprit Bumrah Defends Bowlers Amid Criticism Over Slow Over Rates

In the ongoing Lord’s Test, players from both England and India have drawn criticism for their slow over rates. On Day 2, the extra half hour was used, but only 75 overs were bowled. On Day 1 of the Test match, the entire allotted number of overs was also not finished. As supporters attacked the teams on social media, Bumrah stood up for the bowlers and clarified:
“Don’t how I can help with that, but it’s hot out there. It’s tough for the bowler and sometimes you have to take your time because you don’t want your quality to be compromised. You don’t want to be too rushed as well.”

The 31-year-old said he is confident that Test cricket will eventually get faster under the new regulations. He clarified:
“There are new rules as well that you have to start your over before 60 seconds. That eventually will help, but sometimes the weather has to be taken into account. We are human beings as well. We also get tired. We take time to move around. When the weather is a little friendly, you will be able to get more overs.”

In their opening innings on Day 2 at Lord’s, Team India faced 43 overs. At stumps, KL Rahul was on 53, Rishabh Pant on 19.
