England's Jofra Archer celebrates after dismissing India's Rishabh Pant (right) during day five of the Third Rothesay Men's Test at Lord's

England pacer Jofra Archer dismissed Rishabh Pant to give the hosts a positive start on Day 5 of the third Test against India at Lord’s on Monday, July 14. Archer, who had been hammered for two boundaries after play began on the final day of the Test match, made amends with the wicket. India, chasing a modest goal of 193, lost half of their team for 71 after the wicket.

The dismissal occurred in the 21st over of India’s run chase, the fourth over on Day 5. A length ball that angled in from wide of the crease was bowled by Archer. The ball seamed in, wobbled sharply away, and then held its line to hit the top of the off-stump, but Pant was caught in the crease. It took just nine runs off 12 balls for the left-hander to go out.

England Seize Momentum with Rishabh Pant’s Wicket on Final Day

Jofra Archer of England celebrates dismissing Rishabh Pant of India during Day Five of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match

On Day 5 of the third Test, England took a decisive lead over India thanks to the wicket of Rishabh Pant. Karun Nair (14) and Shubman Gill (6) were dismissed by two strikes from Brydon Carse earlier in the day. The tourists were left reeling at 58/4 after Jofra Archer and captain Ben Stokes dismissed nightwatchman Akash Deep (1) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (0).

India was bowled out for the same 387 in their opening innings, and England was unable to take any lead. In their second innings, Washington Sundar (4/22) took four wickets to help the Men in Blue swept out the hosts for 192. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah each took two wickets.

At the time of writing, England have the upper hand, with India precariously placed at 101/7 in their chase of 193 at Lord’s. Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy are at the crease, attempting to stabilize the innings against a potent English bowling attack that includes standout spells from Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes

A win would give India and England a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India won the second Test by 336 runs at Edgbaston, while England won the first Test by five wickets at Headingley.
