England's Joe Root and Ben Stokes on the first day after the closes on day one of the Third Rothesay Men's Test at Lord's

Joe Root, the batting maestro for England, has revealed that Ben Stokes disregards his recommendations over how to handle his bowling workload. In light of his recent performance against India at Lord’s, the 34-year-old disclosed that the seam-bowling all-rounder is still driven to win every time.

Ben Stokes was under considerable pressure at Lord’s after India defeated England by 336 runs at Edgbaston, leveling the series at 1-1. On a challenging Lord’s surface, the 34-year-old made important knocks in both innings, but his most significant contribution was with the ball. Stokes took five vital wickets and bowled down 44 overs in both innings as England won a thrilling match by 22 runs, despite his previous injury troubles.

Speaking ahead of the fourth Test, the Yorkshire batsman admitted that he was concerned about the all-rounder’s ability to stay healthy until the finish of the match. As reported by BBC Sport, he stated:

“He doesn’t always listen to me. He didn’t listen to me when I was captain. But, no, he knows what he’s doing and he’s got a good handle on where he’s at physically. It was an incredible effort. He’s just desperate to be the man and make things happen. Incredible effort to be able to do that. I was just panicking that he wasn’t going to make it through the game after a couple of bad injuries but he clearly trusts his body now.”
