Rishabh Pant was looking good at 37 when he had to walk off after suffering a brutal injury. At the end of the day, the visiting team was 264 for 4 out of 83 overs. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur are on 19 each still remaining on the pitch. The match hangs in a nice balance after the opening day.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made 58 runs on the first day. This helped him cross 1000 Test runs against England. He also became the joint-second quickest Indian to reach the milestone in the format, against England.

In just 16 innings, he matched former captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s record. The two are trailing only Rahul Dravid, who accomplished the feat in 15 innings, the fastest in the country’s history. Jaiswal has scored 1003 Test runs against England, including three hundreds and five fifties.
