S. Sreesanth, a former Indian cricketer, recently spoke on Virat Kohli’s aggressive playing style and reminisced on his own career experiences. “If Kohli stops or even lessens the showing of his intense personality on the field, he would never be the same player,” the cricketer-turned-commentator added.

The right arm bowler who featured in the 2011 world cup winning Indian squad with Kohli mentioned that one of the highest strengths of Virat Kohli is actually his aggressive approach. He also explained the distinction between violence and passion besides giving explanations about the on-field behavior of Kohli.

Sreesanth, Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla and Virender Sehwag of India celebrate their teams win against Sri Lanka during the 2011 ICC World Cup Final

After winning the 2011 World Cup, the two cricket players’ careers took opposite turns. Sreesanth did not play in that tour, but Kohli made his Test debut during the West Indies series. While Kohli’s career proceeded to take off, Sreesanth made his final Test debut in 2011 during the fourth Test match against England.

S. Sreesanth Opens Up on Infamous Harbhajan Singh Slap Controversy

S. Sreesanth also recalled the 2008 incidence when he was slapped by Harbhajan Singh after a match in IPL in Mohali. He discussed the long-range outcomes of the episode regarding his family particularly on the perception of his daughter on the spinner.

“When I told my daughter, ‘This is Bhajji pa, he’s played with me’, she straight away said, ‘No, no, I won’t say hi’. I couldn’t understand why. In school, there may have been the odd conversation about it. There are different stories doing the rounds. Then we tried explaining, but she said she still won’t talk to him. The next day, when the legends tournament was going on, we explained that he was like our elder brother. I don’t think Bhajji pa did that deliberately. It happened on the spur of the moment. It was just a learning experience for both of us.”

Both Sreesanth and Harbhajan were big names in Indian cricket during their playing days, playing a vital role to the national team’s honours, including the 2011 World Cup win. And the 42-year-old’s International career ended precisely four years later, besides his final ODI was the World Cup final. He did make a comeback to the domestic circuit with performances but that wasn’t enough to get him back in IPL or the national team.
