Ravichandran Ashwin, a veteran spinner who announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), has confirmed his participation in the International League T20 (ILT20) auction, which will take place in Dubai on September 30. He will play in the fourth season of the UAE-based league, which will take place from December 2, 2025, to January 4, 2026, if he is selected.
Playing 221 games in five teams (the Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals), Ravichandran Ashwin now announced his retirement from the IPL earlier this week. He was the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament by 187 wickets at an economy rate of 7.2. He had won 2 IPLs with CSK in 2010 and 2011.
In 2025, his last employment with CSK ended badly. Ashwin was purchased at the super auction for INR 9.75 crore, played just nine games—his fewest since 2009—and concluded the season with his highest-ever economy rate of 9.12. Ashwin is currently looking after chances in other leagues after leaving international cricket in December 2024.
“I have sent my name for the ILT20 auction. Hopefully, I will have a buyer,” Ashwin told Cricbuzz.
Only three Indian players have appeared in ILT20 so far
The competition, which includes teams like MI Emirates, Gulf Giants, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Sharjah Warriorz, Dubai Capitals, and Desert Vipers, has only seen Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, and Ambati Rayudu represent India thus far. The Dubai Capitals are the reigning champions going into the season.
International talents such as Alex Hales, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Phil Salt, Sherfane Rutherford, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Sam Curran, Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Mustafizur Rahman, Rovman Powell, Shai Hope, Azmatullah Omarzai, Moeen Ali, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Chris Woakes, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kusal Perera, Romario Shepherd, Adil Rashid, Kusal Mendis, Tim Southee, Maheesh Theekshana, Sikandar Raza, and Tim David have already been signed by the league.
