Harmanpreet Kaur upped the pace

India Women will be led in the 2025 World Cup by Harmanpreet Kaur, and the tournament will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka between September 30 and November 2. India have been runners-up twice, in 2005 and 2017, yet this is despite still trying to win their first title. This tournament provides Harmanpreet with an opportunity to win the team an all time victory.

The 36 year old is the most recent captain of India who took India on a home series with Australia and the series ended with a 2-1 victory in favor of the visitors. Harmanpreet played a divided game making 80 runs in three games. Having scored two lows she at last caught up with a fast 52 off 35 balls in the last ODI in Delhi.

Harmanpreet has hitherto played 152 ODIs and is thus one of the most experienced players in India. With the world cup coming her performances will be under scrutiny and many are comparing her leadership with that of MS Dhoni who was well known in guiding India to major titles in the ICC.

1. Harmanpreet Kaur vs MS Dhoni – Who has a better average and strike rate after 152 ODIs?

After 152 ODIs, Harmanpreet Kaur has 4,149 runs at an average of 37.37 and a strike rate of 76.42. She has done well against top teams, scoring heavily against England (955 runs at 45.47) and South Africa (802 runs at 53.46).

Comparatively MS Dhoni had been making 5,026 runs in 152 games with a much better average of 50.26 and a strike rate of 89.46. He was particularly very strong with Sri Lanka as he made 1,370 runs with a great average of 62.27.

Evidently, the overall statistics of Dhoni after 152 ODIs were higher, in regard to consistency and strike rate, although Harmanpreet also possesses attractive statistics in relation to main rivals.

2. Harmanpreet Kaur vs MS Dhoni – Who has more hundreds after 152 ODIs?

Harmanpreet has seven hundreds and 20 fifties in 152 ODIs with the most memorable one being the whopping 171* in the 2017 World Cup semifinal with Australia. She has hit three tons against England and one against Australia, South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh.

On his part, Dhoni had five hundreds and 34 fifties spread over the same number of matches. The finest were his performance in Jaipur where he scored 183 off Sri Lanka in 2005, which is one of the best ODI performances of all times.

In this stage, Harmanpreet has more hundreds, but Dhoni brought more regular half-centuries that could help India to overcome a difficult situation.

In run-chases, Harmanpreet has scored 1,430 runs in 67 innings at an average of 37.63 and a strike rate of 73.55. She has one century and nine fifties while batting second, proving her ability to anchor innings under pressure.

Dhoni’s record shows why he earned the title of a master finisher, though Harmanpreet too has played key knocks in pressure games.

4. Harmanpreet Kaur vs MS Dhoni – Who has a better record in wins after 152 ODIs?

Harmanpreet has appeared in 88 victories with 2,415 of the total number of runs at 48.30 with the strike rate of 82.53. She had seven hundred wins with only one being a losing purpose, which highlights the contribution to the success of the team.

Dhoni, in his turn, scored 3,346 in 85 wins with an incredible average of 79.66 and 100.11 strike rate. It was his match-winning skill as he has won all his five hundred matches so far in matches that India won.

Both players have proven to be at the right place and the right time but the numbers of Dhoni are something extraordinary and hence he is one of the most successful in the most demanding situations.
