Team India are now all ready to take on Australia in a three match ODI series of October 19-25. The opening match will be played in Perth and later it will be in Adelaide and Sydney. Other veteran players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also be seen in this series having not been seen in action since the champions trophy earlier this year.

To date, India have completed 99 ODIs within the Australian soil of which they have won 40 and lost 53. Four have gone to no result and two have been a tie. In terms of head to head competitions in Australia, the Indian and Australian teams have already competed 54 times in which the Men in Blue have had 14 victories and 38 defeats. There were two games that were called off because of weather.

All the attention will be directed at the batting lineup of India as they gear up to play the next series. A number of Indian stars have over the years provided memorable performances in Australia conditions. It is time to look at the top five Indian batters that have made the highest number of runs in one-day internationals in Australia.

5. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan toured Australia and had 21 ODIs where he made 819 runs with an average of 39 and a strike rate of 88.25. The glamorous left-hander scored two hundred and four fifties in his Down Under stay, and was to be a steady top-order player in India.

His best work has been the 2015 world cup where he scored a magnificent 137 against South Africa in Melbourne. In 2016 alone he made an attacking stroke play when he struck 126 off 113 balls against Australia at Canberra.

4. MS Dhoni

The fourth highest Indian batter in terms of ODI runs in Australia is the former India captain MS Dhoni. He had 1,053 runs in 35 matches with a remarkable average of 47.86, and a strike rate of 75.59 which had eight half-centuries.

In Australia, Dhoni scored 88 against Sri Lanka in Brisbane in 2008 and this was his best score. His 87* against Australia in Melbourne in 2019, as he led the chase, was another performance to be proud of as he did it with composure and accuracy.

3. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli comes in third place with 1,327 runs in 29 ODIs in Australia averaging 51.03 and a strike of 89.06. The contemporary great has five centuries and six fifties to his name in Australian conditions which has proven that he is a class act across formats.

He has scored his greatest hit in Hobart in 2012, when he broke an unparalleled 133 on only 86 balls against Sri Lanka. In 2016 Kohli also made a brilliant score of 117 at MCG and dominated the Australian attack with a graceful play of strokes.

2. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been one of the most constant performers of white-ball cricket in Australia. He has made 1328 runs out of 30 ODIs with an average of 53.12, a strike rate of 90.58, and five centuries and four fifties.

His most productive performance was in Perth in 2016 when he was not out on 171 on 163 balls against Australia. Rohit has also delivered a refined 138 at MCG in 2015, which highlights the fact that he can play long and meaningful innings.

1. Sachin Tendulkar

The number of runs in Australia tops the list by Sachin Tendulkar that amounted to 1,491 in 47 ODIs. His average of 34.67 was at a strike rate of 75.26 with just one century and 10 half-centuries to his name against the best bowling on tricky pitches.

He scored a fantastic unbeaten 117 against Australia in Sydney in the CB Series semifinal in 2008, and this was his best performance in ODIs. Other significant hits of Tendulkar included 91 in Brisbane and 93 against Pakistan in Hobart which demonstrated his supremacy in foreign situations.
