The legendary cricket player from India, Sachin Tendulkar, has flatly rejected that he is a candidate for the position of president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a statement, his team categorically denied rumors that the former batter will become the next president of the board.

Although Tendulkar was not accessible for comment, his team asked that the media not make such statements. A statement from SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. provided the clarification.

“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” the official statement read as quoted by Cricbuzz.

On September 28, the BCCI will hold elections for the positions of treasurer, secretary, joint secretary, president, and vice-president. The current treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhati, joint secretary Rohan Gauns Dessai, and secretary Devajit Saikia are probably going to stay in their roles.

The chairmanship of the Indian Premier League (IPL), along with the positions of president and vice-president, continue to be the primary focus. Meanwhile, it is anticipated that Rajeev Shukla, the current vice president, will remain within the BCCI structure in some capacity. Additionally, discussions suggest that his continued presence could provide stability during the transition period. Consequently, the upcoming elections are expected to draw the closest attention from both state associations and cricket analysts alike.

Jay Shah and president Roger Binny walk out

Roger Binny was elected president in October 2022 to replace Sourav Ganguly and led India to their 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Also, he was involved in the establishment of the Women Premier League (WPL). As per the constitution of BCCI, Binny retired at the age of 70.

The names of representatives from the state associations must be submitted by September 12. Consequently, this list is expected to offer preliminary hints regarding potential candidates for the most significant posts. Moreover, observers anticipate that these names will signal emerging trends and provide insights into how the elections might unfold. In addition, the submissions could help the BCCI identify alliances or support patterns among various state associations.
