India's players celebrate after the dismissal of Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan during the Asia Cup 2025 Twenty20 international cricket match

The Asia Cup 2025 has already seen one high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan, with India winning by seven wickets in the group stage. Fans won’t have to wait long for the next meeting, as the two sides will face each other again in the Super Four on Sunday, September 21, at the Dubai International Stadium.

India secured their Super Four spot with back-to-back wins over the UAE and Pakistan. Their final group game against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi is only a formality since Oman are already out of the tournament. A win there will confirm India’s position as Group A toppers (A1). Pakistan, meanwhile, beat Oman and the UAE but lost to India, finishing second in the group (A2). As per the schedule, A1 India will face A2 Pakistan once again in Dubai.

Group B, however, remains wide open. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are still in the race for the two Super Four spots. Bangladesh have finished their group games, while Sri Lanka’s clash with Afghanistan on September 18 will decide the standings. If Sri Lanka wins, they and Bangladesh qualify. If Afghanistan wins, all three sides will end with four points, and net run rate will determine who goes through.

Shivam Dube (L) of India and Suryakumar Yadav (R) of India celebrates victory after the Asia Cup match

Beyond the points table, the India-Pakistan rivalry has already been heated off the field. After India’s win, skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his team walked off without shaking hands, a gesture Pakistan took as disrespect. Captain Salman Ali Agha boycotted the post-match presentation, and the PCB filed a complaint with the ICC, demanding match referee Andy Pycroft’s removal. The ICC rejected the appeal, backing Pycroft. Later, Suryakumar explained that the gesture was a mark of solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, dedicating the win to India’s armed forces.

If both sides progress to the top two of the Super Four, fans could even witness a dream India vs Pakistan final on September 28 — something that has never happened before in Asia Cup history.
