India’s thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final was overshadowed by a strange post-match controversy. The usual trophy ceremony did not take place after ACC president and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reportedly left with the cup and medals. The Indian players had requested that Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni hand over the trophy, but their appeal was turned down.
The champions were now deprived of their silverware and the atmosphere inside the stadium became strained. The Indian players celebrated their victory, albeit without the official ceremony in which they enjoyed the moment with their fans and the other players.

A light-heartedness was provided into the drama by Spiner Varun Chakravarthy the following day. In a post he gave a picture of himself in bed with a tea cup in the side table with a suggestion of the lost trophy. He also shared a photo of the Indian team acting like they were lifting an imaginary cup on the vacant podium making the scandal an element of humor.

Varun Chakravarthy is given to his sportive sense of humor. He posted a picture of him drinking coffee alongside the Champions Trophy after India won the 2025 champions trophy asking him why the victory had taken a long time. Initially to be hosted in Pakistan alone, the tournament was later to be co-hosted by the UAE because of the safety concerns of India.
Only Chakravarthy did not spare the opportunity to make fun of the lost Asia cup trophy. There were also edited photographs of trophy emojis posted by Surayakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Abhishek Sharma. Yadav was reminding everyone that it is the champions that people remember, not the physical trophy.
