Rohit Sharma of India celebrates after reaching his century during game three of the One Day International series between Australia and India at Sydney Cricket Ground

Rohit Sharma has achieved a phenomenal feat in his cricketing career, having become the No. 1 ranked ODI batsman according to ICC rankings for the first time. The Indian skipper reached there in his 268th game, a testament to his extraordinary regularity and domination in the format. This feat adds another feather in the already burgeoning cap of Rohit and shows how consistently he still leads from the front for Team India.

As far as Indian players go, MS Dhoni still holds the record for the quickest player to top spot in ODIs, getting there after 38 games. Dhoni attained his first number one ranking on April 20, 2006, when he overtook Ricky Ponting as the world’s top ranked ODI batsman – and held the position for just two days. What does this mean?.SceneManagement.No Indian captains have been able to handle traditional format with such authority and calmness. He would, twice thereafter — in 2008 and 2010— will tear the ball up during his golden period as India’s captain and finisher.

It is a record that stands unmatched in the history of Indian cricket. And Bashir said that his desire to emulate his hero was the only thing keeping him going despite having never played an ODI or Test but feeling McNair’s nightmare in every nerve of his body. /p> Former captain made 10,773 runs in 350 ODIs at an average just over 50 included ten hundreds and 73 fifties. The astonishing transition at the highest level only went to show what a phenomenal slate of strokes he possessed, and how unflappable his temperament was. Even today, no Indian batsman has taken less time than Dhoni to reach the No. 1 rank in ODIs.

Besides his batting heroics, Dhoni is the only skipper to win all three ICC tournaments – T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI WC in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. He remained an inspiration for climbers in cricket these days. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has now carried the mantle forward as India’s new top-ranked ODI batsman having secured 781 rating points.

Rohit’s gain at the top comes in the wake of an outstanding run in the ODI series against Australia, where he aggregated 202 runs in three matches at a staggering average of over 100. His hundred in the match and steady fifty was crucial to India’s series win. Both his ability to retain top form and the leadership traits have been decisive in India continuing their dominance in white-ball cricket.

Rohit has fashioned an outstanding ODI career over the years. He has made 11,370 runs in 276 games at an average of 49.22 with 33 hundreds and 59 half-centuries. His career-best rating of 882 points was achieved after the World Cup in 2019, where he made history by scoring five centuries — the most by a batter in a single edition of the tournament.
