India head coach, Gautam Gambhir was left fuming with rage after Arshdeep Singh completely went out of line in India’s second T20I against South Africa on Thursday, 11th December at Mullanpur. The left-arm paceman was jolted when Quinton de Kock clobbered the first ball of the 11th over for six, and trying to adjust he sent down a succession of wides.
He was trying to go wide outside off, not allowing the batsman to score but got it wrong a few times – delivered two wides before making a dot ball. What happened next was even messier: He went on to bowl four wides in a row, and then Gambhir had a fiery exchange with him from the dugout. We also saw Captain Suryakumar Yadav along with experienced pacer Jasprit Bumrah walk up to the bowler and talking to him as well trying to get into his ears so that he could be calm around.

Gambhir’s excited expressions instantly went popular on social media, even before Arshdeep Singh finished his over. Arshdeep completed with 13 deliveries, the most by an Indian bowler in a T20I over. He was also the first bowler from a full-member nation to allow seven wides in a single over. Naveen-ul-Haq held the previous record, bowling six wides in an over last year.

— ••TAUKIR•• (@iitaukir) December 11, 2025 Arshdeep had a rare off-day on the field. He lost his cool, and even the audience became agitated as they waited for the over to conclude. The Indian captain finally removed him from the assault, and Shivam Dube replaced him.

India lead the five-match T20I series 1-0 after romping to a crushing win against England in the first match at Cuttack. Hardik Pandya powered the victory with a scorching knock and an all-round performance that set up the 101-run margin on Tuesday. South Africa, meanwhile, will look to bounce back on the back of Quinton de Kock’s sensational 90 off 46 balls, which included five fours and seven sixes.
Taking the entire trip in perspective, South Africa won the two-match Test series 2-0 against India and got its first win in a Test series against India for 25 years. India had won the ODIs 2-1 largely on account of Virat Kohli’s magnificent run including two centuries and a half century from three matches. Both the sides would now look to complete a top finish in the T20I series to win the shorter-format duel.
