Asia Cup 2025 scandal between India and Pakistan is likely to take centre stage when ICC holds quarterly meetings at Dubai this week. The Chief Executives Committee (CEC) will hold a meeting on November 5 and the Board will hold a meeting on November 7 during which all the heads of the board of cricket will be present. Although the matter is not specifically addressed in the agenda of the meeting, chances are that it will be brought up on an informal level in the deliberations between the officials.
The political tensions between the two countries have been reflected in tension between the BCCI and PCB. This only got worse with the situation in the Asia cup where India and Pakistan competed three times in a drama-filled tournament. The BCCI was also alleged to have initiated the no-handshake policy, which resulted in embarrassed encounters on the field as well as heated conversations between the two opposing players.

The situation became controversial when the ICC reprimanded four players, Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan and Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah of India. Their gestures on the ground during one of the matches in the group were considered to have political influence and they were warned. The stress was at its very climax during the trophy presentation ceremony when India won the final.
ICC Moves to Resolve Trophy Controversy Between India and Pakistan
India’s players refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both PCB chairman and ACC president. This act drew sharp criticism, with the trophy still reportedly locked in an ACC office in the UAE. Naqvi has insisted that, as ACC president, it was his duty to hand over the award, though his dual role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister has added to the controversy.

Nevertheless, despite the continued tension, the ICC officials and board members acknowledge the sheer popularity of the India-Pakistan conflict globally. Hopefully, it is believed that the meetings in Dubai will allow defusing the situation and setting up clearer guidelines in the occurrence of future multi-nation events. Most of the ICC feel that it is important to keep the healthy cricketing relations between the two countries in order to enhance the commercial and cultural development of the sport.
