India concluded the Test series against the West Indies with a clean sweep 2-0 win by beating the West Indies 7 wickets in Delhi. The visiting team of players were invited to receive a couple of encouraging words by the former head coach of the West Indies team at the post match dressing room, Gautam Gambhir.
On the fifth morning, the hosts completed the task in a short period of time in pursuit of 121 runs in less than an hour. KL Rahul had not been beaten and the Indian team was still on a good streak against the Caribbean team with 58 on his scorecard in his efforts to dominate their tenth Test in a row.
In the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and Shubman Gill (129*) spearheaded India with a spectacular century and assisted the team to develop a good lead. The match-winning contribution of Kuldeep Yadav who had 12 wickets in total and Ravindra Jadeya who was selected as the Player of the Series due to his all-round performance won the awards.
The West Indies, even after losing the series, had fighting spirit in its second innings courtesy of the 115 of John Campbell and the 103 of Shai Hope. Their association made it 390 and Gambhir praised them as he was impressed with how they fought and their overall outlook in the field.
“I think for me, I think the most important thing I was telling Darren this as well, that the way you guys carry yourself on and off the field as well. I think it’s a great learning the way you guys carry yourself off the field, your humility, your humbleness is something that my team and a lot of teams across the globe has to learn from. (0:56) I think being absolutely ruthless on the field, but away off the field, I think you guys are great role models,” he said in a video shared by BCCI.

He also remarked that World Cricket requires West Indies cricket and that once they wear their Test jersey, they have the ability to accomplish something special, which the T20 format does not provide.
“I want to say one thing and that is something which I’ve always believed in. You might feel that I’m saying it just for the heck of it but this comes straight from the heart. Western cricket doesn’t need world cricket. World cricket needs western cricket. Remember that. World cricket needs western cricket. And a good, solid test team, test nation is a solid cricketing nation. It’s not the other way around. So when you wear that jersey, remember, I think you’ve got the opportunity to do something special which not a lot of players who play in T20 format has,” he added.\
