The delay in announcing Indian Premier League (IPL) dates is due to state elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam, as well as the preparedness of venues for the present T20 World Cup. The 2026 season of the league will run from March 26 until May 31.
A BCCI official suggested that the schedule may be released in two parts due to the tournament’s conflict with state assembly election and counting dates, which could cause security difficulties due to local police involvement in the polls. The official stated that the board is awaiting clarification from the appropriate authorities before finalizing the locations and fixtures.

“It’s a mammoth task to rearrange the schedule of three teams if some of the match dates clash with the election or counting dates. Naturally, the state police won’t be able to provide security for the matches, and we will have to move those games to a different location. We are in touch with the authorities and waiting for clarity on the dates,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by News18.
“If the dates take too long to be announced, we may end up releasing the schedule in two parts. That is one option. We will take a call soon,” the official added.
CSK, KKR games likely to be affected

Both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)could have their teams players hit hard by the scheduling clash. According to the indianexpress.com, KKR are looking at other venues and discussions with Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) are on for hosting some if not all their games at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium.
The status of Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium is also unclear due to administrative tussle in Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The Rajasthan Royals are looking elsewhere for refuge, and it’s with the Maharashtra Cricket Association that they’ve held talks to field their home games at Pune’s MCA Stadium.

One of the other concerns for the BCCI is to have venues that are hosting the World Cup games adequately prepared for IPL. Up to five of the 10 IPL venues – Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Ahmedabad – are staging the global competition and will need time to set up. The T20 World Cup will end on March 8.
