Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players were spotted wearing a black armband symbolically in honor of the late mother of Mukesh Choudhary during the match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede stadium in Thursdays 23 April.
The speedy bowler has just lost his mother who died on Tuesday after a 1-year battle with her condition.
“The CSK family mourns the passing of Mukesh Choudhary’s mother. We stand with Mukesh and his family, keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” the franchise posted on their social media accounts.

— Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) April 23, 2026The heart-breaking news came after Choudhary was included in CSK’s playing XI in front of MI at the hallowed Wankhede Stadium. In the last 2026 IPL game, the left-arm bowler took two wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Choudhary will only get more ball-related responsibilities – along with Anshul Kamboj – due to Khaleel Ahmed’s season-ending hamstring injury.
Interestingly, Choudhary has not been a regular part of the CSK set-up since above-mentioned IPL season. The 29-year-old played just five times in the last three more seasons after playing a total of thirteen games in 2022. He did, however, take 16 wickets in his first IPL season four years ago and do so at an economy rate of 9.31.
CSK are in desperate need of a win to kickstart their 2026 campaign
CSK played six games in this year IPL and has only managed to win only twice before they play MI. They are presently lying in eighth place in the points table having only four points to their name.
The five-time champions do require a victory early before it is late so as to give their campaign some steam, in case they wish to make an attempt towards the top four spots in the second half of the season.
