Andy Flower has been named the new head coach of London Spirit’s men’s team, taking over from Justin Langer. Under Langer, the Spirit finished seventh out of eight teams in his only season in charge.
Flower leaves Trent Rockets after five years with the franchise. Recently, the MCC and a consortium called the ‘Tech Titans’—including executives from Google, Microsoft, YouTube, and Adobe—took over the Spirit’s operations and plan to run the team as a joint venture.
At the Spirit, Flower will be reunited with the Director of Cricket Mo Bobat. The two earlier co-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the inaugural IPL trophy in 2025, and Bobat added that he will be thrilled to collaborate with Flower in order to enhance the performance of the Spirit.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure Andy’s services as our men’s head coach. Andy and I have enjoyed a strong working relationship in the past, and I’m looking forward to building something special with him at London Spirit as we enter this new and exciting phase for the franchise,” stated Bobat, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Andy Flower also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to work with Bobat again.
“It’s a real privilege to be part of such an iconic venue and organisation. I’m also thrilled to be working once again with Mo, and for the first time with both MCC and the Tech Titans,” Flower commented.
Speaking of the general performance of the Spirit in the event, they were able to win the Women Hundred in 2024. They however have been lagging in the men category historically. Men team have won 12 out of 38 matches only. Five of them happened in 2022, as they were coached by Eoin Morgan to the knockout stage. This was the only occasion in which they made it to the knockout.
