Abhishek Sharma was on the spotlight once again as he had 61 after 31 balls, which was his third consecutive 50 in the tournament. Tilak Varma remained undefeated on 49 off 34 and Sanju Samson had contributed 39 off 23. Sri Lanka did not have any wickets left out, with five bowlers taking one a piece.

Pathum Nissanka, had been the focal point of the chase with a splendid 107 out of 58 balls and Kusal Perera contributed 58 out of 32 balls. Their alliance left Sri Lanka dominating throughout the majority of the innings and India bowlers were challenged.

The middle overs were well bowled by Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy who claimed one each wicket and made the game tight. As 12 were required in the final over, Harshit Rana gave up 11 runs, which was a draw and resulted in Super Over.

Arshdeep Singh bowled an excellent over in the decider, only conceding two runs and picking up both wickets. India had to win only three and Suryakumar Yadav finalized the victory with a boundary in the first ball. Nissanka was declared the Player of the Match even though Sri Lanka lost the match, and India went to the final without a defeat.

Here, we’ll look at three moments from the match that sparked fan interest:

1. Abhishek Sharma takes Dushmantha Chameera to the cleaners in the powerplay

Abhishek Sharma brought up his third successive fifty

India was once once more initiated in the powerplay by Abhishek Sharma. He was against Dushmantha Chameera in the fifth over and he was determined as he hit a six that went very far into long-off. He struck out the following ball but soon recovered with back to back fours.

The over consisting of 15 runs was the tone of the innings of India. Abhishek was aggressive enough to see India keep on rolling and his performance in the tournament was exemplary.

2. Pathum Nissanka dents sponsored car with a six off Team India pacer’s bowling

Pathum Nissanka lit up the Dubai crowd with his brilliant stroke play. Throughout his 107-run knock, he displayed remarkable timing and placement. In particular, he struck a massive six off Harshit Rana in the 11th over, which quickly became the talking point of the match. As the crowd erupted, his confidence grew even stronger, and consequently, Sri Lanka’s innings gained momentum.

A few overs later, Nissanka picked up a slower ball and effortlessly hammered it over mid-wicket. As a result, the ball sailed beyond the boundary and hit a sponsored car, leaving a visible dent. The moment not only stunned the spectators but also highlighted Nissanka’s exceptional control and power on the night.

3. Dasun Shanaka survives despite being run out in Super Over

India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav (C) speaks with the field umpires during the Super Over of the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Twenty20 international cricket match

The Super Over brought its share of drama. Arshdeep Singh bowled a low full-toss outside off, and Kamindu Mendis missed it. Sanju Samson collected the ball and hit the stumps directly, catching Dasun Shanaka well short of the crease.

However, Arshdeep had already appealed for a caught behind, and at that moment, the umpire raised his finger. Yet, on review, the caught behind was overturned, meaning Shanaka wasn’t out, because the ball was declared dead. Although the incident added tension to the match, it didn’t change the outcome, as India went on to seal the win later.
