Matt Short damaged his hand attempting to take a catch

Matthew Short, an Australian all-rounder, suffered an injury to his fingers at the hands of the second match on the ODI between Australia and India that took place in the adelaide Oval, on Thursday, October 23. The pre-match toss was won by Skipper Mitchell Marsh who chose to bowl first, and Alex Carey, Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa came back into the playing XI.

The injury happened in the 34th over when Josh Hazlewood bowled to KL Rahul. Rahul played a low ball to slip, and Short rushed forward to take the catch but misjudged the bounce. The ball struck his fingers, causing heavy bleeding, and he had to leave the field for treatment.

Australia held on to the game despite the early-innings incident. India stumbled from the start as Bartlett, bowling with the new ball, quickly dismissed both Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli within the powerplay.

Gill tried to play an attacking shot but Marsh caught him at mid-off for nine runs. Kohli, meanwhile, got out lbw for a duck, extending his poor run of form after a cheap dismissal in the first ODI.

Hazlewood pitched a brilliant spell in the Australian team, ensuring there was a tight grip with his 0/29 in 10 overs with two maidens. Although he did not make a wicket, he was very accurate to keep the Indian batters under constant strain.
