West Indies batsman, Sherfane Rutherford exploded himself in their T20 World Cup 2026 match on Wednesday 11th February. The match takes place at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Batting first, West Indies set a formidable target of 196/6. It was Rutherford who did the dismantling. Batting at five, the left-hander smashed a whirlwind fifty from 29 balls. His assault didn’t cease, as he finished unbeaten on 76 from 42 balls including two fours and seven sixes at a strike-rate of 180.95.
He also ended up the innings with a huge six over long-off from Jofra Archer off the last ball of 20th over. Rutherford has been retained by the Mumbai Indians for IPL 26. The Wankhede Stadium is also MI’s home ground ofcourse.

After his heroic performance at the stadium, fans of MI were stunned and responded on X:

Rutherford showed hints of his form in the West Indies’ first game against Scotland, scoring 26 runs off 13 deliveries. He maintained the momentum and delivered a harder blow against England at the Wankhede.
Sherfane Rutherford was traded from GT to MI ahead of IPL 2026 auction

Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, Sherfane Rutherford moved from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Mumbai Indians (MI), as GT released him for ₹2.6 crore — notably the same price they had originally paid for him.
Previously, he has represented multiple IPL franchises, including DC, RCB and KKR. Meanwhile, across his IPL career so far, Rutherford has featured in 23 matches and, in 20 innings, has scored 397 runs at an average of 24.81 and a strike rate of 137.37.
